What is a Disciple?

What is a Disciple?

As we explore discipleship, it’s important that we get on the same page about what a disciple actually is. What do we mean by discipleship what does a disciple look like? It’s important to define the target before we begin pursuing discipleship.

Go and Make

Go and Make

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” These were the last words that Jesus said to his disciples before he ascended into heaven. It’s this command that is at the core of the church and its mission here on earth. We are to make disciples, but that’s easier said than done.

Review: The Great Divorce

Review: The Great Divorce

C.S. Lewis’ “The Great Divorce” was a joy to read from beginning to end. It presents a compelling view of the afterlife that challenges our own preconceived notions about the spiritual realm. While it’s not mean to be taken as gospel, it does present a sound theological argument in a style that anyone can grasp and comprehend.

Review: Red Rising

Review: Red Rising

Red Rising has become one of my favorite book series. With compelling characters, a tense plot, and a fully realized world, this story is guaranteed to keep you engaged. It’s a great dystopian sci-fi novel that I enjoyed every minute of.

Review: Disunity in Christ

Review: Disunity in Christ

Christ’s hope was for His church to be unified. Just looking around today will tell you that isn’t quite the reality. The church today struggles with disunity than ever before. Christena Cleveland addresses this very issue in “Disunity in Christ.” Within it, she explores and reveals the forces that keep us separated and what we can do fight for unity in our churches.

Even More Undignified

Even More Undignified

What’s the one thing it seems no Christian can agree on? Worship. The church seems to be deeply divided on what worship is and how we’re supposed to worship. That’s a big problem for a people who claim to be bound together in unity. Before we try and tackle this problem we need to answer the question, “what is worship?”

When I Grow Up

When I Grow Up

Today is the day. The big one. It’s the day I turn 30 years old. Despite my three decades on this planet, I still don’t feel like an adult. I thought that by now I would have this whole thing figured out and that life would make more sense, but it turns out that’s not the case. Perhaps that’s not a bad thing. In fact, that might be the way you’re supposed to live life, as a child.

Review: The Confessions

Review: The Confessions

St. Augustine’s Confessions is a foundational work of the western Church. Within, St. Augustine explores the deepest depths of the human soul, muses on the relationship between humanity and sin, and explores the nature of God and creation. It is a profound work of the early church that should not be missed.

Augustine’s Search for God

Augustine’s Search for God

Who is God? It’s a universal question that everyone, even non-Christians, ponder. We are all seeking answers to who we believe God is. Even hundreds of years ago, Augustine, the bishop of Hippo, wondered the same thing, and he shares about his search in a poem he wrote in his confessions.

The Problem with WWJD

The Problem with WWJD

In my small group this week, we asked the question,”Who has Jesus been to you?” It’s a really good question. Everyone in group had different answers, including myself. Jesus has been many things to me. He’s, of course, my savior, but He’s also a role model. In fact, recently that is what I have been focusing on the most in my relationship with Him. Many of us know Jesus as our savior, friend, counselor, and brother, but how many of us treat Jesus as a role model? Many of us know that we should be like Jesus, but how many of us would say that Jesus is our role model?
